In the last post i told you how to set up your drum set.Now once the drums are all placed at their usual place the next step is to try your hands on the drumset.
Assuming that you have no knowledge of playing drums I am providing you some basic easy beats that you should practice initially to set your hands on the drumset.
But before that here are some notations for various drums:
Base drum - b;
Snare drum - s;
toms - t1,t2;
Hi-hat - h;
Floor tom - ft;
Crash cymbal - c;
Right foot - 0;
Right hand - *;
left hand - +;
- : blank;
Here are the basic drum beats:
1. straight beat 1 with Hi-hat:
c - - - - | - - - - | - - - - | - - - - |
h * * * * | * * * * | * * * * | * * * * |
s + | + | + | + |

The very first beat is on the hi-hat (with your right hand) and on the base drum(with your right leg) simultaneously.
The second beat is on the hi-hat (with your right hand).
